"I voted in favour of this report which comes in response to the Commission Communication on ‘Opening up Education: Innovative teaching and learning for all through new Technologies and Open Educational Resourcesʼ. This report aims to improve the quality of European education by promoting innovation in schools and training institutions, increasing the availability of ICT infrastructure and equipment, supporting the use of OER (open access to publicly-funded educational material) and exploiting the potential of MOOCs (massive open online courses). Such measures will also be applied in primary and secondary education and will also be made available to disadvantaged groups, people currently not in education, employment or training and older generations. This will result in filling in the digital skills gap (90[nbsp ]% of jobs will require digital skills by 2020), as well as ICT-related vacancies in the EU (up to 900[nbsp ]000 vacancies in the field are expected by 2015) in the near future."@en1
