"I have voted in favour of this agreement which ensures that the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has sufficient funding to carry out its new enlarged responsibilities, responding to marine pollution caused by oil and gas installations as well as vessels. This agreement will be of great help to those states affected by marine pollution as these can now request the assistance of EMSA’s anti-pollution vessels to clean up their coastlines. EMSA also has a satellite system for the monitoring and detection of oil spills (CleanSeaNet) which in return will reduce such natural disasters. Third countries sharing a regional sea basin with the Union are also included on the scope of the EMSA action for marine pollution response, promoting a safer environment beyond the shores of EU countries."@en1
