"I voted in favour of the market surveillance of product report. This report proposes a set of market surveillance rules that strengthen consumer protection in the EU. One of the rules states that ‘Made-in’ labelling should be made mandatory for non-food products sold on the single market. This will result in the improvement of the traceability of goods, which will also contribute to the strengthening of consumer protection. Other rules include the provision that tougher penalties for firms selling non-compliant or potentially dangerous products will be issued and that the seriousness, duration and intentional or recurring character of the infringement as well as the size of the company will also be taken into account. This legislation is a major step towards a more powerful, coordinated and risk-based pan-European surveillance. Better surveillance means safer products for European citizens."@en1
