lpv:spoken text	"This report sets out Parliamentʼs first-reading position on a recast proposal regarding the maximum dimensions and weight for vehicles transporting goods and passengers. It also provides for derogations for some vehicles exceeding these maximum dimensions. The key issues concerned an updating of cab dimensions to reduce the driver’s blind spots, in order to protect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. Secondly, on the issue of cross-border circulation of so-called larger and heavier ‘giga-linersʼ, currently interpreted in different ways by different Member States, the Commission proposal attempted to provide legal certainty that they could only cross a border where the two Member States agree to allow the vehicles on their road network. Whilst Conservatives do not wish to allow so-called ‘mega-trucksʼ on UK roads, the Commission text provided much needed legal clarity, in what has been a grey area, which does not interfere with the practices of other Member States. Conservatives were also anxious to ensure that cross-border circulation of higher trucks between the UK and the Republic of Ireland should be allowed to continue."@en1
