"Whilst I support the headline news of this report – a possible end to mobile-roaming charges across the EU by 2015 – much of the report is less satisfactory, not least because of the haste with which it has been rushed through Parliament. At the forefront of my concerns lies the introduction of a right of veto for the Commission regarding Member States’ plans for spectrum assignments. This represents a substantial shift in power to the Commission and brings into question the subsidiarity principle. Whilst these concerns remain, and I hope that they can be resolved as the legislative process continues, we should not lose sight of the achievement regarding mobile-roaming charges. These fees are a huge boon to customers across the whole of the EU, and an ability to travel throughout the European Union on one single tariff will be welcomed by all. We should not also forget the impact this will have on establishing a truly single telecoms market, which can only serve to increase competition and reduce overall costs to customers."@en1
