"Mr President, I want to ask the question: why was our High Representative for Foreign Affairs in Iran last weekend? She arrived in Iran on International Women’s Day, in a country that oppresses women, where women are routinely tortured and raped in their prisons. Indeed, two days before she arrived, a 25-year-old mother was hanged, leaving behind a 10-year-old daughter. She had been in prison since she was a teenager. Did Baroness Ashton raise that issue when she met the smiling, apparently moderate President Rouhani under whose seven-month reign 600 people have already been hanged? We have heard in this debate that three people are hanged every day. On the day she arrived, the Israelis stopped an Iranian vessel carrying rockets and other weapons destined for Palestine militants in Gaza. Did she raise that issue with President Rouhani? She has given a propaganda coup to the Iranian mullahs, and we should be ashamed that she went on our behalf. Why is she not here today?"@en1
