"I backed the proposals in this report which would speed up the necessary reform of Europeʼs air traffic control services. We need to prepare quickly for the anticipated growth in air traffic across the European Union. By pushing ahead with implementation of the Single European Sky, we can share airspace better, reduce emissions and make our airlines more competitive. The implementation of the Single European Sky initiative has brought some results thus far, such as a halt to the increase in air traffic management costs, a reduction in air traffic delays and the maintenance of safety levels. However, this process has been quite slow. The disruption to air travel caused by the eruption in Iceland in 2010 highlights the need to speed up implementation of the Single European sky in order to ensure that there is a coordinated response to such unexpected occurrences."@en1
