"I support Parliament’s resolution on the data protection directive setting out rules to be followed by law-enforcement authorities and governing cross-border data processing in police and judicial cooperation. This would replace the existing 2008 Framework Agreement that is not working with a binding directive that ensures enforceable rights and a much higher level of data protection, while at the same time guaranteeing the effective operation of legitimate law enforcement activities. I would now urge Member States’ governments to reach agreement on this proposal within the Council so that an overall agreement can be reached with Parliament, along the lines set out in Parliament’s resolution. I would also urge the Irish Government to give serious consideration to opting in to this proposed directive."@en1
