lpv:spoken text	"I welcome the adoption of Parliament’s resolution on a new data protection regulation, to replace the existing Data Protection Directive adopted nearly 20 years ago. The new regulation should introduce the obligation to obtain the consent of citizens before their data can be processed as well as stricter rules for data exchange with third countries. Companies that violate these rules could face penalties of up to 5[nbsp ]% of their global sales. I would now urge Member States’ governments to work with Parliament so that we can reach final agreement on this draft regulation, in line with the position set out by this Parliament."@en1
