"I fully support this report, which looks at removing some of the current unnecessary administrative burden for rail operators and manufacturers. Having one safety certificate that is valid for the whole European network will reduce the unnecessary and costly barriers that currently undermine the competitiveness of the rail sector by ensuring that train manufacturers need only go through one European body, rather than individual Member States, for authorisation. I also support the involvement of national safety authorities throughout this process to ensure that, while streamlining safety standards across the EU, the current safety levels in Member States are not jeopardised. The changes in this report should be beneficial to UK businesses by simplifying their access to the EU market to help them expand into mainland Europe."@en1
