"I supported the adoption of Parliament’s resolution on the employment and social aspects of the European Semester for economic policy coordination. We need to put more emphasis on tackling the social consequences of the economic and financial crisis and promoting sustainable and inclusive growth, with more and higher quality employment, and higher social standards. I do welcome the call to explore the possibility of a directive on carer’s leave but I am disappointed that Parliament narrowly rejected Recommendation 5 of the Annex, which sought to give Member States in the excessive deficit procedure the fiscal space to tackle youth unemployment through an exemption, and that it decided to support limiting access to early retirement schemes and other ‘early exit’ pathways."@en1
