"I welcome the adoption of Parliament’s resolution on the European Semester for economic policy coordination – the Annual Growth Survey 2014. The European Union needs a change in economic strategy in order to ensure that its focus is not just on fiscal consolidation but also on growth and employment. We need growth-friendly fiscal consolidation that takes country-specific situations better into account and that promotes targeted social investment in training, education and lifelong learning. I particularly welcome the call on the Commission to examine not just Member States with current account deficits but also with those with current account surpluses, in order to achieve a coordinated strategy to rebalance the EU economy. Growth and jobs have to be at the heart of the EU’s economic policies."@en1
