"Violence against women remains one of the most serious human rights violations in Europe. A recent study by the EUʼs Fundamental Rights Agency shows that up to 25[nbsp ]% of women have experienced physical violence and around 10[nbsp ]% experienced sexual violence. This cannot continue. This resolution sets out how Europe can help combat violence against women. We must have comparable data on the situation in all Member States. This data will enable us to develop a comprehensive, EU-wide approach to combating violence against women. The creation of an EU-wide Observatory would enable the compilation of such data and would help identify best practice in the provision of services to victims. Designating 2016 the EU Year to End Violence against Women would help shine a light on this issue. I reiterate the call to all Member States, including my own, to ratify the Council of Europe’s 2011 Istanbul Convention. Ratifying and implementing this Convention demonstrates a true commitment to eliminating violence against women."@en1
