With 12[nbsp ]% of Europeʼs greenhouse gases currently coming from passenger cars, an ambitious target is essential for ensuring the EU remains on course to meet our emissions reduction targets. In addition, the proposed target of 95g CO /km by 2020 is expected to save consumers EUR[nbsp ]340 a year in fuel costs, while new test standards will ensure that the miles per gallon information provided when purchasing a car will be closer to reality. Incentives for manufacturers to go further and develop cars with much lower emissions will ensure the EUʼs car industry remains competitive by encouraging the development of more fuel efficient technology."@en1
