"A Uachtaráin, vótáil mé arís le mo ghrúpa sna vótaí go léir agus glacadh leis an tuarascáil le móramh mór agus is maith sin.
This report deals almost exclusively with cargo. That is understandable, because 500 million tonnes of cargo are carried on inland waterways, mainly on continental Europe, and it points out the necessity to try and make them more efficient, to eliminate bottlenecks and to have them greener, and in that regard it mentions the development of LNG terminals, which I completely agree with. There is one proposal in my country for such a terminal – Shannon LNG. Hopefully that will come to pass.
It also mentions seaports. Again, it is important that these are developed, and again on the Shannon Estuary in Ireland there is a proposal to develop one of the finest deepest seaports in Ireland at Foynes, and hopefully that will come to pass. But one point I want to make is that it ignores leisure and tourism and Mr Bennion and I mentioned that this morning. There is a huge potential to develop leisure and tourism as well as cargo in the inland waterways, and I hope that this will become part of the proposals in due course. Finally, Mr President, thank you for the efficient and fair way you have chaired today’s session."@en1
