"The situation in Egypt remains precarious. The country is struggling, in the face of Al Qaeda-backed militants, to cement a democratic foundation. The army is unable to bring security to the streets, and police forces have been targeted with bombs. The death toll continues to rise and demonstrations have become a daily occurrence. It remains unclear whether the provisional leader, Field Marshal al-Sisi, will run for presidential office, given the army’s denial of a Kuwaiti report that he would do so.
With the trials of both Mubarak and Morsi still ongoing, it is unclear what kind of future Egypt faces. The situation has improved marginally since the overthrow of Mubarak, but civil unrest continues and Egypt is truly divided. The EU must ensure that any aid given reaches the citizens and does not fall into the hands of militias hell-bent on unleashing terror upon the people.
The army must make solid efforts to bring democracy to Egypt and should not revert to installing dictators. Egypt is still positioned at the crossroads and it must choose the democratic path."@en1
