lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, I strongly support LGBT rights. No one should be discriminated against on the basis of their sexuality or gender identity. I have personally campaigned for the rights of gays and lesbians, especially in those countries where homosexuality is illegal. I was proud to support the Turkish-Cypriot gay community and celebrated with them when homosexuality was decriminalised last week. But while I believe in LGBT rights, I also believe in the sovereignty of the EU Member States. The EU should not encroach in areas in which it does not have competency. Anti-discrimination measures are important, but we must not duplicate the work being carried out by Member States by introducing additional EU requirements. While I abstained on this report, it does not diminish in any way my support for LGBT rights and the fight against discrimination."@en1
