"Mr President, I would like to thank Mrs Gallo and the colleagues who worked with her to achieve this first reading agreement. The agreement is good news for artists, consumers and all collective rights management organisations committed to equitable and transparent remuneration of music creators and performers. Many of us have been waiting for a long time for much-needed improvements in copyright governance at European level, so it is a very welcome first step. It will now be possible to put in place a cross-border licence for music works, while collective rights management organisations, such as collecting societies, will be bound by transparency and governance rules to guarantee the prompt and equitable distribution of our artists’ remuneration. This is the kind of approach that we need to see emulated in European intellectual property regimes for other collective creative areas, to achieve a digital single market worthy of its name, stimulating innovation and better consumer access to those works across national borders."@en1
