"Madam President, I resent the fact that paragraphs 116, 118 and 119 all reference reproductive rights. Both I and my political group voted against these paragraphs, as it is clear that this is a matter for Members’ subsidiarity. In our ever changing world, the EU must continue to develop flexible policy responses and to spread the founding values of the European Union. The report reiterates the appreciation of the EU strategic framework and action plan on human rights and democracy as an important milestone in integrating and mainstreaming human rights across the EU’s external policies, and it underlines the need for a general consensus and enhanced coordination of the EU’s human rights policy between EU institutions and the Member States. The report also notes the crucial importance of EU policy adequately addressing dynamic transition processes in third countries, and acknowledges the requirement for policy flexibility and it also encourages the development of policy tools which could be applied in different scenarios. So our aim must always be to promote human rights and democracy; that is what we are all about."@en1
