"Madam President, I fully supported this report and I am very proud of the fact that it is my neighbouring colleague from Ireland, Marian Harkin, who was the rapporteur for this. The EGF is a hugely effective instrument in terms of economic policy to get people back to work and its budget has been cut back to EUR 150 million per year between 2014 and 2020, which is regrettable. It is regrettable that the fund has not been brought back to its previous levels because we never needed the fund more. People were talking earlier about the older age category: people between 50 to 55 years of age losing their jobs. What about the people of 18, 19, 20 years of age who have come out of third-level education and cannot get jobs? That is why I think we need to target it for the younger generation. You have a problem, Madam President, in Italy; we have a major problem in Ireland. I think it needs to be targeted and I think it needs to be monitored to see whether it is working. I think the potential of the fund is absolutely huge, but we need to monitor it and we need to do so on a regular basis, and if modifications or adjustments are needed, well then do so."@en1
