"I will be voting against this report for a number of reasons. Firstly, there are still doubts as to whether the Commission has demonstrated that this agreement is done with the consent of the Sahrawi people or will benefit the wider population. Secondly, questions still arise regarding international law and human rights. Thirdly, the Government of Morocco, despite many approaches by myself, has not only refused to recognise the game of Rugby League as a separate game from Rugby Union, but has taken no action to stop the blatant discrimination being practised by the Moroccan Rugby Union against Rugby League in violation of the International Rugby Union rules and also the rights of citizens to play any game of their choice.
It is my view that until such time as these issues are resolved with Morocco, Parliament should not have any agreements with Morocco, fishing or otherwise. Whilst accepting that the Moroccan Ambassador in Brussels has tried to raise the issue of Rugby League, the refusal of the Moroccan Ministry of Sport to even discuss this issue is unacceptable and a breach of human rights."@en1
