"Mr President, I am back again – just briefly – to state that in relation to defence there are different views, and maybe the necessity to have a European-wide approach. It is very important for my country, as we have been neutral since the foundation of the state, that this neutrality would be recognised and respected and that there would be no effort to coerce us to be part of anything greater.
Neutrality has served us well, particularly in relation to being able to send peace missions, through our defence forces, across the world, where they have had great acceptability because we were a neutral country. That point should not be lost. Having said that, we recognise the subsidiarity rules. Every country is entitled to do what it likes and, if they want to cooperate and coordinate, that is fine as well. But our position is that we are neutral and we want to remain so."@en1
