"Mr President, I voted against this report on the rules for participation in Horizon 2020, determining how the funding will operate. It is wrong that the new cost-reimbursement rules mean that big private companies will now receive the same amount of co-financing as small and medium-sized enterprises, non-profit public bodies and higher-education establishments. Given that funding for university and public research centres is a lifeline at a time of economic crisis, it is unfair that large companies will now receive a larger slice of the funding. Furthermore, I would have preferred to see a much more explicit mention of the new EU guidelines for preventing funding going to Israeli companies with activities in the occupied territories of Palestine. These guidelines must be strictly implemented against those entities which are violating international law."@en1
