"Madam President, I am pleased to see some of the other Horizon 2020 rapporteurs here. My report was adopted with a massive majority earlier this week. I look forward to Members joining me in a similarly massive majority which they richly deserve. I am pleased with the cooperation I have had with my fellow rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs in what has been quite a vital process. I look forward to those remaining reports being successful.
Horizon 2020 for me represents a next step in European research and excellence, one in which my country, the UK, has played a leading role and benefitted greatly. For the next seven years we will have newer, bigger, more ambitious frameworks to invest in our future; one where young European scientists and researchers will not feel the need to move elsewhere in order to continue with their world-beating research that needs our support. This is not only an investment in brilliant science: it is also a support for close-to-market research which helps companies, and in particular SMEs, to bridge the difficulties of bringing new products to market, and reinvests vital funds in the European community."@en1
