"The Cohesion Fund comprises one of six regulations of the overall cohesion package, which is a EUR 325 billion investment with enormous opportunities for the 2014-2020 period. The Cohesion Fund lies at the heart of the EU’s growth agenda, and as such is the largest instrument available to the EU to drive investment and to promote growth and jobs. The overwhelming majority in favour of the cohesion package demonstrates that the newly streamlined cohesion policy has real potential for addressing economic and social disparities amongst Member States and regions, reducing unemployment and ending stagnant levels of growth in the coming years. European Structural and Investment Funds have made a valuable contribution to public programmes in my own constituency throughout the last number of years. My hope is that the Cohesion Fund agreed will simplify the funding process and harmonise eligibility rules to the benefit of Northern Ireland’s economic development. Moving forward, I believe that the whole cohesion package ought to proceed in a timely fashion to allow Member States to negotiate Partnership Agreements with the Commission in regard to how these funds will be spent. Only at this level will the true potential of streamlined cohesion funding be fully felt."@en1
