"I ran a successful company for 25 years. And one of the reasons the company was successful was that we did not spend money that we did not have. The Commission has come, cap in hand, for an extra EUR 11 billion, claiming that it needs the money to cover a shortfall. How on earth did the Commission manage to spend so much money it did not have? It is asking today for enough money to buy 40 Airbus A380s. This is not exactly the kind of small change that you lose down the back of the sofa. Our citizens are fed up with the EU wasting their money. The fact that the Commission can run up an overdraft of EUR 11 billion does not instil me with confidence in this organisation’s sound financial management. I voted against yet another hand-out to spendthrift Eurocrats and shall vote to block any further give-aways until they have learned to balance the books."@en1
