"I am pleased that the Parliament has voted on my report on nuclear research with a massive majority. I have the privilege of being the first Horizon 2020 rapporteur to have my report adopted. I am pleased with the cooperation I and my fellow rapporteurs have enjoyed throughout this long and vital process. Horizon 2020 represents the next step in European research – one in which my country the UK has played a leading role and benefitted greatly. For the next seven years we will have a newer, bigger, more ambitious framework to invest in our future, and one where young European researchers will not feel the need to move elsewhere in order to continue with the world-beating research that needs our support. This is not only an investment in brilliant science, it is also one to support close-to-market research, helping companies and in particular SMEs to bridge that valley of death and re-invest funds in the European economy. We are still living with a legal framework in which the Parliament is merely consulted, but today we have voiced our opinion on the need for further progress in this important area and we will look to see the Council take account of our democratic mandate along with the remaining Horizon 2020 reports."@en1
