"The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) has been a disaster for the fish and for our fishermen. Thanks to the efforts of Conservative Ministers and MEPs, along with others, some much overdue reform is now underway. Ensuring that progress is not undermined by an opaque funding mechanism is essential. I have long supported a sustainable and localised fishing industry and voted to block measures that would have seen a return to using British taxpayers’ money paying for renewal of Spanish and French fishing fleets which are already well over capacity. I want to benefit our local fishermen. I voted in support of measures that prioritise the needs of small-scale and coastal fisheries, including more emphasis on helping local, sustainable management of fish stocks. I also voted to support small-scale projects for coastal fisheries development and for simplifying the funding process for our local fishermen. The ECR Group was able to vote in favour of the report."@en1
