"I voted in line with the original proposal by the European Commission that aims to assure the sustainability of fish stocks now and also in the future. First, we need adequate data on the current situation concerning fish stocks and our seas. Whereas the Baltic Sea is almost 75% researched and mapped, the Black Sea on the other hand is a tabula rasa and in the Mediterranean area it is only about a quarter. Our internal seas have very fragile ecosystems which are largely not sufficiently researched; it should be our first task to complete data collection in this regard. Also, the control and enforcement of data collection has to be strengthened; Member States need to take their responsibility in this regard seriously. I am very glad that the vote was in favour of a reasonable approach and is not supporting increasing or renewing the fleet."@en1
