"Mr President, I welcome this report. It is a good report and it is badly needed. It outlines what steps the EU needs to take in its war against corruption, so I voted for it, quite obviously.
The EU can only become a credible and influential leader in the fight against corruption if it adequately addresses the problems of organised crime, corruption and money laundering outside and inside its borders, and if it fosters the involvement of programme beneficiaries in third countries and contributes to greater monitoring, accountability and transparency of external aid in the fight against corruption.
The report requests the EU Member States to amend their criminal laws, where necessary, to establish jurisdiction over individuals of any nationality found on their territories who have committed acts of bribery or embezzlement of public funds. It asks for capacity building of anti-corruption institutions, which is very important in a borderless Europe. The report complements the corporate and social responsibility report by the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs by requesting that all EU enterprises build their corporate responsibility."@en1
