"I voted to support this timely and interesting report, given the significant potential of cultural and creative sectors as sources of growth and jobs. These sectors currently account for 4.5 % of GDP and 8.5 million jobs across the European Union and there is further opportunity to strengthen this sector and maximise the beneficial effects for the economy and society as a whole. I fully support the position that the cultural and creative sectors be used as a vehicle for promoting closer cooperation between the different policy areas, particularly culture, education, industry, economic affairs, tourism, and urban and regional development. The ‘Creative Europeʼ programme with its budget of EUR 1.8 billion offers an excellent starting point but must be an accessible programme for those at the community level. Information about the programme, its potential and the funds available must be clear and accessible, without red tape."@en1
