"The cultural and creative sectors contribute significantly to the European economy and I am very proud of the UKʼs contribution in this area where the creative industries alone account for 7.3 % of UK GDP. This report called for the creation of a favourable business environment for SMEs within the cultural and creative sector and for their administrative and regulatory burdens to be reduced. This report is timely and essential given the importance of the cultural and creative sectors, especially at a time of economic crisis and there are many good aspects to this report. For example, I do agree with the parts stressing the importance of local and regional development within this area. However, we in the ECR simply cannot support the suggestion of making further progress towards tax harmonisation. Nor can we support the idea of promoting a common European identity and this does not belong in a report on the cultural and creative sectors. I also do not want to keep the cultural and audiovisual sectors outside the scope of the negotiations for the EU-US trade agreements. For these reasons I had to vote against the report."@en1
