"Mr President, I welcome the adoption of these resolutions on the youth strategy and youth employment as an indication underpinning the importance that the European Parliament attaches to the issue of youth employment. In my own country, Ireland, youth unemployment is unacceptably high at 26 % and indeed one-third of unemployed people live in the capital city, Dublin, my own constituency. Now that we have the instruments, we need to ensure that they are implemented correctly. We need to ensure that Member States consult with stakeholders in the first instance. We need to ensure that quality programmes are actually produced by the Member States. We need to ensure that a youth guarantee is just that, and that it provides young people with a real opportunity and it provides progression into real and sustainable jobs. We also need to ensure that the youth guarantee is branded as such and that the European Union ensures that Member States and its young people in the Member States are aware of the forms of support that are coming from the European Union to address this issue."@en1
