"Mr President, Commissioner Barnier and speakers from all sides of the House have pointed out the need to complete the digital single market. Indeed, it is a sine qua non for the development of European economies. People have referred, and rightly so, to the need for full digitalisation of the public sector, development of e-health, e-commerce and particularly to making high-speed broadband available right across Europe.
A special mention concerning e-commerce: trust has been mentioned and that is absolutely vital. We need to encourage people to trade online, and SMEs to trade online, but we have to put the tools there to give them confidence to do so.
Also, I would like to point to one thing which is happening in my constituency and has now spread worldwide, which I launched here in the European Parliament on 29 January, called CoderDojo. It is a mentoring programme to help young people develop skills of coding and programming because we have a great shortage of that expertise in Europe."@en1
