"I voted for the resolution on the proposed MFF deal. We are currently in the grip of a financial crisis in Europe; we are already seeing austerity across Europe at national level and, due to the huge decrease in the EU budget, we will now also see austerity at European level. The cut in the budget means that there is not enough money to finance many of the key EU programmes which help European citizens. I fear that much of the EU budget will have been spent long before 2020, leaving many programmes unable to be completed. We are already in deficit with the current funding. We will not achieve the EU 2020 targets with this budget deal. Wales is a net beneficiary of EU funds. I work for the Welsh national interest and that has meant resisting successive UK Government attempts to cut regional and agricultural funding. I am glad that we have prevented them once again."@en1
