"Regional state aid rules need to be effective, with subsidies contributing towards creating long-term growth in disadvantaged areas. I voted in favour of this report, which looks at, among other things, the compatibility of the proposed modifications of the regional aid rules with cohesion policy objectives. A simpler and more transparent state aid system, as called for in this report, would lead to ensuring that state aid is concentrated in areas that are most in need of support. This would benefit parts of Wales, which need the support of regional state aid to help create jobs and growth in some of the most disadvantaged areas. I fully support the report’s position highlighting that excluding large companies from state aid rules is not justified; large companies often attract smaller companies to invest nearby, thereby generating extra employment."@en1
