"Mr President, the European Union needs to reform itself, not just for the sake of British interests, but for the benefit of all Member States. In London, the Chamber of Commerce identified employment law as a key area which should be transferred back to the British Government.
I voted against this report because, again, it calls for more interference in Member States’ employment policies. It calls for more EU money to be spent on schemes to increase youth employment or to roll back the tide of globalism. The best way for the EU to create employment is to cut red tape and unnecessary rules, and make Europe competitive again. This report also tries to interfere in social security law with proposals for a minimum unemployment benefit. The EU must not tell Member States how to spend their welfare bills. Brussels is encouraging benefit tourism when it should be protecting countries’ welfare systems from abuse."@en1
