"Investment in the social housing sector is crucial if we are to ensure decent housing for those people who are most badly affected by the ongoing economic crisis. Due to the rise in living costs, a fall in wages and rising unemployment across the EU, many people face extra costs, and some are being evicted from their homes as result. More investment in social housing will also have the advantage of boosting construction and renovation sectors and will as a result boost the green workforce. I echo calls for a European social housing action framework to be set up to make sure there is consistency between the different EU instruments used for the purpose of social housing. Social housing is a vital part of the 2020 strategy objectives and action needs to be taken in this area to reduce poverty and to meet targets which have been set. I believe that adequate EU funding in this area is important and will help complement spending at national and local level."@en1
