"The agreement as it stands is very narrowly focused on trade and investment, and brings back to the table many things that have been dismissed in the past; some examples would be the freedom to import GMO products; the US belief that data protection is bad for business; ACTA and the whole area of intellectual property rights; the state-investor dispute settlement system whereby a company can sue a state for lost revenue if legislation, environmental or otherwise, would affect business. Other areas of concern include the lack of examination on how this agreement would affect existing and ongoing bilateral trade negotiations, the potential deregulation of financial sectors, that the process will not be conducted in a sufficiently transparent manner, and the effect that a merging of our agriculture sectors would have, particularly on smaller, less competitive countries. As there is no meaningful impact assessment, nor consultation with affected parties, I voted against this agreement."@en1
