"The Gender Directive was the first European directive designed to combat gender-based discrimination beyond the parameters of the labour market, particularly with regards to insurance. I fully support this report, which aims to ensure the effective implementation of this important directive. Access to and supply of goods and services should be founded on principles of equal treatment, not a person’s gender. It is vital that the Commission does all it can to monitor the latest developments in the insurance market by liaising with organisations that deal with equality, in order to determine problems and to ensure that good, transparent practice is maintained and gender-neutral pricing implemented. All EU citizens should have access to the same insurance services, irrespective of their gender, and the effective application of the Gender Directive is a pivotal component of the EU’s strategy for achieving gender equality."@en1
