lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, I found the comments made by the rapporteur very interesting, and I agree with her completely. In summary, I think that what we need to do is move from aid to trade. The world is changing. Developing countries are now becoming more aware of their potential. I think we have to move from giving them direct development aid, as we do nowadays, to doing something that will benefit them in the future. One thing we need to look at is the whole question of NGOs. There is a plethora of NGOs, all doing great work – but how effective are they and how prepared are they for the future? I think the Commission should do an impact assessment on the NGOs that we are funding, with a view to perhaps reducing them by half and making them more effective and more responsive to the needs of the future. By doing this, we could help these countries not just to be developing countries but to be developed countries in a few years."@en1
