But the bottom line is that there is no one in this Chamber who does not want to mitigate pollution. We want to make sure that we have the best equipment, the best technology and all those things that are cost-effective for the European consumer. My view is, and others’ views are – and they may be fairly reticent in coming forward and saying so, because we have got to get some sort of deal, for God’s sake – this was not the way forward. This was always ill-conceived in terms of including aviation in this, and this has been borne out for the last six years. Otherwise we would not be sitting here having this debate, because the entire thing is a shambles."@en1
