"Mr President, I voted against this report in light of its call for changes in policies which are not competencies of the EU which clearly contradict the principle of subsidiary. I also dislike the report’s condemnation of national governments’ austerity measures. Specifically, the report asks for ‘relevant budgetary increases’ to address gender inequalities, calls on Member States to ‘support job creation in the social economy’ i.e. recreate public sector jobs, calls on Member States to adapt pension, housing, healthcare and taxation policies to better address the needs of women and welcomes the proposed directive on women in company posts and asks that it extends similar binding legislation to other posts. This report continues the EU tradition of throwing vast sums of money at whatever the problem is perceived to be."@en1
