"I gave my full backing to a report today which calls for businesses and companies to make positive contributions to society through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). I agree that increased measures are needed to bring about environmental changes to ensure a sustainable economic recovery and I echo the rapporteur's calls for EU businesses to take action on youth job creation and address exploitative work practices. Furthermore, I support the promotion of new markets in socially useful and environmental products and services. I sincerely hope that this vote will be addressed by the Commission and that it will push forward new proposals for a law on non-financial reporting by business, which would require companies to publicly report on their sustainability. Finally, I specifically support calls for the European Commission to lead on this issue - to report on the sustainability of the institution and to introduce scheme where staff are able to volunteer in social and environmental projects."@en1
