"Mr President, my prime minister describes members of the United Kingdom Independence Party interchangeably as ‘fruitcakes’ and ‘loonies’. The remarks made before by Mr Bloom were, I think, using another word to test the interpreters, twaddle. No one likes paying taxes of course, but we have to. And what is so serious about massive extortion and massive fraud is that Member States suffer losses of as much as EUR 100 billion a day as a result of major criminal activity in this field. I therefore very much welcome this report, and I also very much welcome the initiatives taken by David Casa, and wish him well in the future if he is no longer in this House. Quite frankly, the only thing we must do is to always be vigilant to counter the sort of criminality which involves itself in major fraud. This particular area of fraud in Europe is particularly important. To protect our citizens, the legitimate, honest and honourable citizens of Europe, we have to deal with these offences and deal with them strongly and vigorously."@en1
