"Mr President, the fact that we had only three votes on this particular report indicates how unanimous the support has been, and listening to all of our colleagues it is obvious that the SME sector has the biggest potential in terms of creating jobs.
A number of years ago, as a Member of the Irish Parliament, I had the pleasure of visiting the United States. We see the United States as big, as mega, but what really was impressed me was the fact that 80% of jobs in the United States are provided by enterprises with fewer than 20 employees, and that is the direction in which we should be going.
Can I say in relation to the venture capital fund that it is excellent, the money is there, but an awful lot of would-be entrepreneurs do not know about it? We need to advertise it. Last, but by no means least, I agree with all my colleagues in relation to bureaucracy. Bureaucracy is the silent killer which has killed more would-be jobs than anything else.
The very last thing I will say is, in relation to the SME sector, let us monitor it on an ongoing basis. It has huge potential."@en1
