"Mr President, I voted for this report because SMEs account for the majority of European jobs. To my mind, they are the most important issue on the growth agenda. Getting the climate right is incredibly important. I welcome the increase in EIB funding, which I understand should leverage a total of EUR 180 million over the period of three years. Lack of access to finance is a crucial limiting factor for entrepreneurs. A good idea, commercial ability, drive, enthusiasm and hard work are completely worthless without capital. They are completely worthless without the access to investment. This is never truer than for young entrepreneurs. We do a lot in this place to try to encourage young entrepreneurs, but the most important thing we can do is to get them money to start their businesses. Most of all I would like to say that I regret the amount of talking we do about this. This is yet another own-initiative report. Own-initiative reports are mostly becoming an abomination to my mind. They are just talk, talk, talk. Let us actually do something."@en1
