"Mr President, the future success of SMEs and their contribution to job creation over the coming years will very much depend on governments putting in place economic policies which will allow SMEs to flourish and to develop quality products and services. Small traders in particular have been going through an extremely difficult financial situation over the past number of years. The onus is on all of us to do all that we can to alleviate the pressure on such small, local traders. While I supported this report, I would have preferred it to have been more proactive in pushing the banks to invest in the economy. However, it is a step in the right direction. I believe EU funding offers a largely untapped source of potential funding for SMEs in the North of Ireland, be they in Derry, Antrim, Down, Armagh, Fermanagh or Tyrone, and not forgetting of course what are called the ‘border areas’ of Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal."@en1
