"As we look today at the negotiations on the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, we must first ask ourselves how reliable are our partners? As Argentina’s economic woes mount, its President is making delusional and distressing demands over the sovereignty of a self-governing British Overseas Territory. The invasion and occupation of the Falkland Islands 30 years ago by Argentina was condemned around the world. This included the European Community which imposed sanctions on Argentina. The people of the Falklands are British and have chosen to be so. Yet, the islanders’ freedom to choose their future is again being threatened by an aggressive Argentina. The islanders will have their say on whether the Falklands remain a British Overseas Territory in a referendum in March. We must listen to the voice of the islanders not to the desperate sabre-rattling of the beleaguered Argentine President."@en1
