"This report outlines yet another excuse to spend more taxpayers’ money without any real economic benefit. It calls for cohesion funds to be maintained at the current level – cohesion and structural funds are the second largest item in the EU budget, accounting for one third of the total expenditure. The report also inflates the supposed importance of the bureaucratic European groupings of territorial cooperation. Cohesion policy is a way of ensuring the transfer of taxpayers’ money from richer countries to poorer countries, or from richer regions to poorer regions. It feeds into the proposed EU macro-regional strategies, which undermine national governments and lead to the creation of artificial identities. I voted against."@en1
